Awakening is a Process with a Clear Map
Over the millennia, it has been dedicated to and realized by few,
yet misunderstood by many.
Some say “when I had my awakening” like it was a thing that happened once. Often this person is referencing a past memory of a temporary state. The Awakening process is not the memory of a past state or something that you once tasted in a plant medicine ceremony.
And it doesn’t matter what clothes you wear, how many ceremonies you’ve done, if you’ve been to Burning Man or how Spiritual AF you seem on Instagram.
Nor is it just a kundalini energy activation up the central channel, which is only subtle energy which arises within the larger unified Non-Dual Awareness —although this is often part of the process. It is a direct experience, a felt sense beyond thoughts and concepts that words can only point to. It is a combination of Grace and specific practice. It is universal Awareness beyond any one culture although many traditional have had effective practices to realize It like Zen, Transcendental Meditation, Sanskrit Mantra, Kabbalah, Shamanism, Vipassana, Quepassana, WTFassana???
These are all roads to the grand Spiritual Awakening. We are so fortunate to be alive at this time in history when we have access to the wisdom of so many great traditions across the world and throughout history. Some traditions had very clear steps for a certain part of the Awakening process but had big blind spots in other areas.
For example, Vipassana tends to have really good techniques for the beginning part of the process such as breath focus and body scanning to focus attention and relax the body, but having the teacher yell at you to “Do Nothing” or then just telling you to sit there for hours or years until something happens may not be the fastest or most effective way. Whereas other traditions discovered when you get to that place then shifting specific things relaxes the personal sense of self Opening as expansive Awareness. But you could sit there in Vipassana or Zen for 20 years clocking hundreds or thousands of hours but stay stuck, never utilizing the modern insights from psychology and neuroscience to help you open to the next levels. Today there is no shortage of spiritual information and techniques on the Internet; but the issue is not finding a path.
